Workshop on using Placecheck for neighbourhood planning (no charge)

Date Thursday, 16 February 2012

Venue Council Chamber, Town Hall, Newark (Market Place, Newark-on-Trent NG24 1DU)

Aim To test the new Placecheck materials

SINCE it was introduced in 1998, Placecheck has been one of the simplest and most effective ways of getting people involved in improving the places where they live. English Heritage is now updating the method for the new era of neighbourhood planning.

The core principle of the Placecheck method is that most of what needs to be known about a place can be seen and understood on site, or is in the heads of the people who live, work or play there. Placecheck is the simplest, quickest way of finding out what the place and its people can tell us.

A Placecheck can help a local community take control of its destiny. It can lead to anything from litter clear-up days and street parties, better planning and effective neighbourhood plans, right through to community-led groups that buy local assets such as pubs, shops and libraries, and run local services.

The workshop is being held to test the developing Placecheck method and materials prior to them being relaunched and put on the new Placecheck website. The event will be an opportunity for you to find out about the method and to try it out on the streets of Newark.

Hi Rob - I've just stumbled across your Placecheck and Neighbourhood planning workshop 7 months too late!
How did the workshop go, where there any conclusions that major alterations were needed for Placecheck, or is it a case of encouraging greater use by communities? What are EH's plans for updating Placecheck?
    many thanks
    Elanor
